BHOPAL: Former chief minister Babulal Gaur has come out in support of former defence secretary Vijay Singh, amid Tata Group’s former chairman Cyrus Mistry alleging Singh’s role in Agusta helicopter scam. Gaur was instrumental in Singh’s appointment as chief secretary during his term as the chief minister.
Gaur, speaking to Free Press, said, Singh was an officer with a squeaky clean image. He said he knows him since 1979, when Singh was the collector of Bhopal. Singh was secretary, urban administration and chief secretary during Gaur’s term as CM. Gaur said Singh was an honest and dashing officer but he admitted that he knows nothing about Tata Company and Agusta scam.
Singh has been reiterating that he was defence secretary from 2007 to 2009 whereas Agusta scam had taken place before his term. Singh came into the limelight when Shivraj Singh Chouhan removed him after taking over as the chief minister. Although bureaucrats are not articulate on the issue but most of them maintain that Singh’s integrity was beyond reproach.
