Bhopal: Police crime branch on Sunday arrested two members of a gang who were involved in multiple robberies in the city. Deputy Inspector General of Police Harinarayanachari Mishra told mediapersons that Rakesh alias Pramod (28) from Dewas who was absconding after his involvement in robberies, has been arrested. During investigation, Rakesh gave information about location of his accomplice Sunil Barmunda (33) following which he was arrested from Raisen.
During interrogation, Rakesh and Sunil confessed that they met Manoj Sharma, Vishwas Soni and Raja Alias Jalam Singh in Central Jail Indore where they were lodged after being convicted in other cases. In the jail, these five people became friends. Later, they formed a gang and organised five robberies in different areas in the city. Rakesh confessed that along with the gang he took part in recci of a grocery trader in Palda and robbed him of Rs 80,000 at gun point in Bhanwarkuan.
As the victim tried to stop, accused fired shots to scare him off. Similarly, the gang robbed an iron rod trader on Palda-Nemawar Road of Rs 1.23 lakh at gun point. The accused followed trader from his shop and stopped him near Advance Academy and robbed him. Rakesh also confessed robbery on Khandwa Road wherein the accused threw inflammable substance on a trader of Raja Trading Company and robbed him of cash, mobile and other valuables.
Another man was also robbed by the gang at gun point in MIG area on June 26, 2018. Rakesh has 26 cases registered against him in Indore district and has been imprisoned more than 10 times. Sunil also has cases of attempt to murder, Arms Act, robbery and exortion against him. Presently, three other gang members Manoj and Vishwas are in Khandwa Jail whereas Raja is in Central Jail Indore.
