Burhanpur: A married tribal woman was allegedly raped by priest in a church at a village under the Khaknar police station on February 9. The victim’s family members informed the police about the incident on Sunday and subsequently an FIR was lodged against accused Hanok Vendor. The accused is on the run.
Sub-divisional officer Karan Singh Ranawat said that the complainant and her family had lodged case against church priest and the police were awaiting victim’s medical report. In her complaint, the 27-year-old victim said that Hanok, who lives on Church Compound in the village outraged her modesty when she had gone to the church to pray on last Thursday. The victim narrated her ordeal to family members, who later approached the police.
The matter came to fore on Sunday evening, when the complainant narrated her ordeal to the family member, who subsequently turned to the police and lodged their complaint.
Police registered case into the matter under Section 376A (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code and relevant section of prevention of atrocity on SC/ST.
