There is no respite from the heat as the temperature increased further on Friday throughout the state. In Bhopal, the maximum was 42.2 degrees and the highest temperature in the state was recorded in Gwalior which sizzled at 43.5 degrees, followed by 43.4 in Khajuraho, 41.5 in Indore and 40.8 in Jabalpur.
Many places in state like Khargone, Ratlam and Hoshangabad saw temperatures hovering around 43 degrees. Warning of likely chances of heat wave conditions have been given by the weather department over isolated places in Gwalior, Hoshangabad, Shajapur, Ratlam, Rajgarh, Chhatarpur, Damoh and Mandla districts. Also the department has forecast that nights are likely to be warmer, especially in Tikamgarh and Sheopuri districts. There will be no large change in weather conditions in the coming 24 hours and the temperature is likely to increase further.
The warm winds blowing during the day add to the burning sensation of the piercing sun. The heat is keeping people indoors and very few commuters were seen on the roads, especially during the afternoon. The temperature rise has also started affecting people’s health. There has been a rise in heat stroke cases. It has been advised that people move out only after covering themselves completely and always carry water along while going out to avoid loss of body fluids. For children, it is advised that they should be sent out to play only after sunset as the heat continuous till sunset and also be given liquid in the form of fresh coconut water, juices, water melon, etc. Avoid heavy oily diet is also suggested as that can affect the stomach and disturb digestion. Doctors have also suggested using sunscreen lotions religiously before going out even if one has covered face or hands to avoid sun burn and rashes on the skin.
