Bhopal: Commissioner of Satna Municipal Corporation Surendra Kathuria was suspended by the state government on Tuesday. The Satna court has granted four day police remand of the official to Lokayukta police. Kathuria was caught red-handed by Lokayukta police on Monday, for taking bribe of Rs 12 lakh cash and gold worth Rs 10 lakh, form Dr Suchitra Agarwal.
The suspended commissioner had threatened and served the notice to Dr Agarwal that her hospital was not constructed according to design and it came under encroachment. When the doctor contacted the officer, he demanded Rs 50 lakh to settle the records.
She complained the matter to the Special Police Establishment and after verification the police raided the officers’ house and arrested him. The police presented the accused in the court and demanded police remand, which it allowed.
The police are camping at his house and investigating and searching the other property details of the officer. They have not disclosed the details of the seized cash, jewellery, property papers and others, from Kathuria’s house. The police may reveal something after the collection of full details of the seized property.
