Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A rape convict who was sentenced to life imprisonment in minor rape case, died in police custody on way to jail after a court order in Narmadapuram on intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into his death. A case was registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in addition to kidnapping.
SDOP (Narmadapuram) Parag Saini told Free Press that Raja Kahar (24) had kidnapped and raped a 17-year-old girl of the locality on July 4 2020.
Raja Kahar was out on bail. Special judge Aarti A Shukla sentenced him to 20 years of imprisonment at 2.45 pm on Saturday. Police force was taking him from court to the jail at 3 pm. Suddenly, his health deteriorated near the main gate of the jail. The policemen took him to the district hospital and informed the family members who took him to New Pandey Hospital where Raja died.
His family members alleged that Raja consumed poison so began to vomit. Post-mortem will reveal the fact and actual cause of death.
Raja had kidnapped the minor girl and took her to Bhopal and raped her. A case of rape, kidnapping, POCSO Act was registered against him. Raja used to work at a petrol pump and was out on bail.
