Bhopal: A spell of moderate rain lashed the state capital giving much needed relief from humidity on Thursday. It has been witnessing heavy rains from the past three to four days. Bhopal, Indore, Hoshangabad and Ujjain witnessed moderate to heavy rains in the past few days.
Rain or thunder shower is likely at many places over Hoshangabad, Jabalpur divisions, Sehore, Bhopal, Raisen, Agar, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Anuppur, Dindori, Umaria and Sagar districts. Besides, Vidisha, Rajgarh, Shahdol, Tikamgarh, Burhanour, Chhattarpur, Damoh, Alirajpur, Dewas, Khandwa districts are expected to experience rain in the next 24 hours.
Warning has been given for heavy rain at isolated places over Hoshangabad and Jabalpur division and Sehore and Raisen districts in the next 24 hours.
Chaurai and Sendhwa each recorded 9 cm rainfall and Shyampur recorded 7 cm rainfall while Shujalpur and Sheopurkalan each recorded 6cm rainfall in the last 24 hours. Similarly, Gadarwara and Jabalpur each recorded 5 cm while Sehore, Khachrod, Bhopal, and Udaipur each recorded 4cm rainfall. Lakhnadaon, Singrauli and Bhabhra recorded 3cm rainfall in the last 24 hours.
According to meterological department, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over South Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Vidarbha and a north-south trough is also extending from this system up to north of Kerala.
It is anticipated that the rainfall activity will continue over southern parts of the state during the next 48 hours. Places such as Betul, Hoshangabad, Chindwara, Khandwa, Indore and Bhopal will receive good rains during the time. Meanwhile, the northern parts will continue to be hot but isolated thunderstorm activities cannot be ruled out over the area.
The rain deficiency has reduced to some extent with the continuous hefty spells over the state. As on September 13, East Madhya Pradesh is rain deficient by 29 percent and West Madhya Pradesh by 22 percent. However, since ongoing rain is not widespread in nature , it may not reach normal.
