The city celebrated the 548th birth anniversary of Gurunanak with great devotion on Monday. Akhand paths, kirtans and langars were organised to mark the occasion. The 48-hour long non-stop recital of Guru Granth Sahib – the holy book of the Sikhs – was held in gurdwaras. Thousands of people joined the langar at Dussehra Maidan, Bittan Market.
Gurudwaras were decorated with colourful lights. Medical and blood donation camps were also held.
Guru Nanak Jayanti is the most important and sacred festival of the Sikh community. Guru Nanak was the first Sikh guru. It is believed that in 1496 he received enlightenment and preached the world about peace and religious harmony.
We are presenting some pictorial glimpses of the celebrations at gurudwaras in Arera Colony, New Market and Hamidia Road captured by our lensman Neelesh Sen.
