Manish Rajak had killed his uncle and his wife to cover the financial bungling he had committed by siphoning off the cash from his bank account. The 25-year accused had fraudulently withdrawn 11 lakh from his uncle’s bank account and spent the entire amount in 22 days. Almost half of the stolen amount was used to clear off the debts.
Daalchand Rajak, 62 and his wife Betibai 55, were found murdered in their home in Priyadarshini Nagar on Wednesday. Police had detained their nephew Manish Rajak on suspicion. However, during the questioning, the youth confessed to have killed the couple to hide his fraud. The court on Friday sent Manish on four-day police remand.
TT Nagar SHO Virendra Singh informed that during interrogation, Manish said that he had stolen his uncle’s ATM card and somehow accessed its password. Thereafter he gradually withdrew the money through which he repaid his Rs 6 lakh debt, Singh said. Police are inquiring how and where he spent Rs 11 lakh in 22 days he had stolen from Rajak’s account
The accused had started withdrawing cash through ATM from March 1 and by March 23, he had taken out Rs 11 lakh from his account. Rajak, a retired class four employee in forest department, had received Rs 10 lakh gratuity after his retirement.
Living in a rented accommodation, Rajak was getting his house constructed and was using the saved cash for the same. Police is also accessing the transaction details as it is unlikely that the accused had spent the huge amount in shopping, he said.
