Bhopal: National-level hockey players, who are forced to live in slums due to financial constraints, will now get houses under Centre’s ‘housing for all’ scheme.
These players living in slums in different parts of the city face a herculean task in commuting to practice grounds on daily basis. Over a dozen such players held a discussion with mayor in ‘Bhopal ki chaupal’ on Monday and complained of being forced to live in ghettoes despite being players.
Describing Bhopal as ‘nursery of hockey’, the mayor promised to resolve all their issues. He ordered officials concerned to provide houses to these players under housing for all scheme after verifying their eligibilities. The players also complained of their inability to shuttle between practice ground and their homes. To resolve the issue, the mayor ordered free “Mahapaur Passes” to help players commute without any difficulty.
As many as eight beneficiaries of compassionate appointment were also given joining letters. Several other issues, including water pipeline burst, were also raised by local corporator Amit Sharma who said that water had entered houses. However the issue was posted for later date.
