Bhopal: Government Motilal Vigyan Mahavidyalaya (MVM), one of the prominent colleges of the city which has earned ‘A’ grade in the year 2014 from National Assessment and Accreditation Council lies in bad shape.

As the student decry lack of proper infrastructure and basic facilities in the college, the administration is waiting for government’s nod for the renovation of the college. PWD is sitting on the proposal sent to it by college administration in July last year. The college building is in shambles as plaster from walls and roof has crumbled. Rusted iron rods and bricks lay exposed on the bare walls across the corridors, classroom, auditorium and toilets.

While the building is in tatter, the condition of furniture in the classrooms is in poor shape. Right from tables, desks, chairs and even blackboard either need repair or replacement, however nothing is being done. Due to lack of proper maintenance, toilets, girls’ common room and other areas of the college except administrative building are in dilapidated state and need immediate renovation. The administrative building, which was built recently by the public works department, is one of the best structures of the college.

Students taking to Free Press blamed college administration for its failure to ensure basic facilities in the college. Harshita Giri, Student Union President of MVM College accused the administration of not paying attention to their problems. “In last two months, we have submitted applications to the principal a number of times seeking necessary infrastructure but every time we got reply that it is a matter related to PWD department and we (administration) can do nothing about it.”

She further accused the college administration of not supporting them as they belong to Bhagat Singh Kranti Morcha, which is in opposition to the ruling party’s student wing. Harshita said that she was shocked to see the deteriorating condition of the college when she had joined it in the year 2016. I was surprised to find out that the college got ‘A’ grade in the NAAC accreditation, she added.

MVM college principal Neeraj Agnihotri, stating that he had joined the college just three months back, informed that the college administration had sent a letter to PWD in July 2017 seeking repair and renovation of the building. An inspection was done a month back and their proposal is pending with the government, said Agnihotri, adding further that the administration will is planning to send a reminder letter to the department.
