Police on Wednesday arrested a faculty of Model Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Govindpura on charges of molesting girl students. A case was registered against the teacher after eight former students of the ITI joined the #MeToo campaign sharing the pain and the misconduct of their teacher on a common Twitter account.
The girls have caused the teacher Jagdeesh Chandra Soni of molesting them when they were pursuing their course at the ITI around two years ago. All the victims were minor when they faced harassment at the hands of their teacher. Ashoka Garden SHO, Sunil Shrivastava said that accused was arrested after a complaint was lodged in this regard by Mandideep-based victim on Tuesday.
In her complaint the girl stated that Soni had molested her and other students for two years when they were in the institute. He even threatened them to deduct their marks if they would not favour him. The victim had come up with the application, while the others girls too complained against Soni and thereafter a case was filed against him, said Shrivastava.
The teacher used to tell the girls, all students of electrical branch, to meet him in the laboratory, and the man then used to forcibly hold their hands and sexually harass them. He even made obscene and double meeting remakes while training, the girls told the police.
The eight victims then had lodged a complaint with the institute’s principal and also senior officials of Technical the Education. On their complaint, the authorities had filed a report but no action was taken against the accused teacher and thus he continued with his shameful acts, said the girls.
Acting on their complaint, police after preliminary investigation registered a case under sections 354 and 509 of the IPC and section 9 and 10 of the POCSO Act against Soni. He was arrest and produced in the court. He was released on bail later.
