A major fire at an auditorium of Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday has exposed the fire safety arrangements at one of the prominent and secured buildings in the state capital. The fire broke out at Assembly’s auditorium number 7 around 11 am. The security alerted the authorities and four fire tenders from Pul Bogda were rushed to the site. It took an hour for the firefighters to douse the flames that had gripped a part of the auditorium and its walls.
No loss of property or any documents was reported. It is suspected that short circuit led to the blaze. Vidhan Sabha Principal secretary AP Singh said no major loss was reported from the site. Safety alarms relayed information and CPA staff immediately swung into action, he said. In view of the approaching summer season, we have sent a proposal to fire department to impart training to the maintenance and safety staff posted at the Vidhan Sabha to avert such incidents, he added. A separate fire fighter vehicle will also be stationed on Vidhan Sabha premises, he informed.
