Bhopal: Even after series of deaths of big cats in State, forest department is all out to defend itself stating that other states which lead in tiger population do not have accurate data collection system and so there, tigers might be dying in more numbers than Madhya Pradesh. There is wide difference between camera trapping figure and the projected numbers of tigers in states which are far ahead than Madhya Pradesh, claim forest officials.
Citing numbers, they said that in Madhya Pradesh, camera trapping figure was 286, while the projected numbers came 308. And in in Karnataka, camera trapping was 208 and projected numbers was 400, thus wide gap shows that these states do not have accurate data collection system, they added.
The State forest officials claimed that the government always stressed on accuracy and all these years, the department focused on improvement and getting the best results. PCCF wild life Jitendra Agrawal said asserted that the states leading in tiger population than home state did not have accurate data as there is wide gap between camera trapping figures and projected figures in these states. So definitely, they must be missing out in collecting data pertaining to deaths of tiger.
“The states like Karnataka have more tigers than Madhya Pradesh, there more big cats must be dying but figure remain uncertain as they do not have accurate data collection system. But in Madhya Pradesh, the gap is very less and here the figures are exact. Here we collect data of all the things including deaths.” “We do not hide anything from higher authority. If deaths are happening in Madhya Pradesh, it is true but more tigers are dying in other leading states but they are least bothered about it and they have not evolved any system to collect accurate data,” he added.
