Bhopal: Local residents have been badly affected by the 10-day-long strike of farmers on the call of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh in the state. Protesting farmers have forcibly shut down milk and vegetable shops of the town and other nearby regions on Friday also. Due to farmers’ strike, residents were unable to fulfill their daily needs. Meanwhile, farmers are expressing anger over the lathicharge by police on protestor farmers. BJP and Congress leaders have also opposed the lathicharge action.
Under the protest, agitating farmers threw milk and vegetables on roads and compelled shopkeepers to shut down their shops on Friday. District Congress president Ramveer Singh Sikarwar and other party leaders also criticised the lathicharge on farmers and said that the present BJP government is an anti-farmer government.
Farmers block roads
Garoth: In Garoth, protests started early in the morning with stick-wielding members of different farmers’ union blocking roads from villages to the city. Not only roads, but farmers also forcibly shut all the shops in the market. In fruit market, farmers threw fruits and vegetables on the road.
Hotel bears brunt
Lebad: At Lebad and Ghatta Billod, members of Kishan Sangh raised slogans like Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan and asked dairy owners to shut their shops. Farmers claimed dairy owners were not supporting them and selling milk products despite strike. Some protesting farmers entered a hotel and spoiled all the milk available there. They entered into a clash with hotel owner and employees. As situation turned violent, police had to rush to the spot.
Milk spilt forcibly, cases lodged
Ratlam: On the second day supply of milk partially got affected in the city and milk vendors told consumers that they did not receive milk from the villages. Supply of milk was maintained by Sanchi milk booths to some extent. Vegetables also reached the city in less quantity and prices of vegetables shot up.
In the vehicle rally on Thursday farmers threw vegetables on the streets which resulted in vehicles passing on slippery roads.
Meanwhile, a case of spilling milk was registered in industrial area police station on the complaint of one Durgashanker of Sikheri village. He said that when he was coming to Ratlam with his daily milk container he was stopped and some people spilled the milk on the road. Similar report was filed in Namli police station by one Gajrajsingh. Cases have been registered under Section 341, 427 IPC against 23 persons.
Farmers threaten Sanchi vendors
Nagda: Farmers are not allowing selling or distribution of milk and vegetables in the markets on Nagda region. They are throwing milk, vegetables on roads in protest and not allowing shopkeepers to open their shops. Due to the farmers’ strike local residents are suffering. Under the strike, farmers have thrown about 29 quintal milk and 10 kilogram paneer of Sanchi on the roads.
Farmers have threatened Sanchi milk point operators that if they sell milk or other milk products in their shops they would have to face dire consequences. On the complaints of shopkeepers, police have registered case against the accused who had threatened. On being contacted, Nagda police station in-charge Ajay Kumar Verma informed that police jawans have been deployed on the roads and bypass to keep vigil on farmers’ activities.
Farmers stopped from taking milk, vegetables to markets
Bagli: Due to the 10-day-long state-wide farmers’ strike, in Bagli region farmers are participating in the strike and staging protests. On Friday, protestors did not allow farmers to bring milk and vegetables to local markets from nearby villages. Due to that local residents suffered and were not able to get milk even for kids. Farmers are throwing their vegetable crops like onions, tomatoes, potatoes and milk on the roads in Bagli, Chhatarpura, Nayapura, Chariya, Awalda, Behari, Dhawadia, Chapada, Gurdia, Bhamori and others.
