Bhopal: Doesn’t need Centre’s nod to hike OBC quota, says CM

BHOPAL: There was no need of approval from the Centre to increase reservation for other backward classes (OBCs) to 27%, said Chief Minister Kamal Nath.

The reservation limit of 50% had been crossed in Tamil Nadu also and when it could be done there then why not in Madhya Pradesh, asked Nath interacting with media here on Thursday.

Nath said he had spoken to several lawyers and they have opined that there was nothing unconstitutional. Nath added that there was no need to send a proposal to the Centre for its approval.

Chief Minister said the issue of reservation in promotion is sub-judice and it would be solved soon. He said the Central government should tell everything to the nation and also reveal about how many buildings were there and how many people were there. Nath said BJP claimed of safety of nation in its regime but highest number of terror attacks took place during the term of BJP government.

More transfers in pipeline

Stating that transfers take place when government changes, Kamal Nath said more transfers will take place in the coming time. He said BJP had its government in the state for fifteen years and some of the officers, who were affiliated to the BJP, are being shifted.

Confectionary park in Indore

Claiming that the government has fulfilled 83 promises in 76 days, Nath said it was decided in a meeting with industrialists to set up a park for those doing business of sweets and snacks. Nath said a confectionary park would be set up in Indore. Besides an overall policy for investment, there would also be a separate policy for investment in each sector.

EWS quota: Panel formed to look into modalities of implementation

The state government on Thursday constituted a cabinet committee to study and implement the reservation for the economically weaker sections (EWS) in the general category. The Constitution (103 Amendment) Act, was passed reserving 10 per cent of government jobs for EWS. General administration minister Dr Govind Singh will head the committee. Its other member include health minister Tulsi Silawat, finance minister Tarun Bhanot and tourism minister Surendra Singh Baghel. The ACS of GAD will be the coordinator of the committee,. The committee will discuss the matter with the various stake holders and will submit a report in one-month time.
