Bhopal: The police constables who were hoping to become sub inspector at the age of 45 years will not be able to get promotion because of amended orders.

The police department is in the process of recruiting constables and sub inspectors. The General Administration Department in its letter dated May 12, 2017 had issued order stating that employees of government, corporation, board and autonomous organisations and executive forces including police and home guards will be able to appear in recruitment examinations till the age of 45 years.

But now, the police department has reduced this age limit to 38 years. Though many constables objected to it, the department did not budge. ADG recruitment Pragya Richa Shrivastava said policing requires hard work and people are not able to exert physically after a particular age.

“In 2016, the upper age limit for recruitment was 36 years. We had requested to increase two more years and now it is 38 years,” she said. According to Shrivastava, the recruitment process will continue till January 2018. The training of recruits is likely to start from April 2018 so that government can have adequate police force by the time state assembly elections are held.
