Bhopal: The Congress party is contemplating the release of its first list of candidates in the month of September. Congress state president Kamal Nath and senior leaders are mulling over the names to be included in the first list.
The meeting of election committee of Congress, was postponed on Thursday on account of demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The formula to select candidates for the first list could have been decided in the said meeting.
Nath has finalized some names, who may be given tickets. The first list will not cover those seats which may be given to Bahujan Samaj Party, if the party enters into an alliance with it. The first list may not figure names of some sitting MLAs. The sitting legislators whose report in the survey, conducted by Nath, is not positive, may not figure in the first list.
Sources in Congress also say that some senior party leaders may also not find place in the first list. Amongst MLAs, Hemant Katare, Lakhan Singh Yadav, Dinesh Ahirwar, Chanda Gaur, Mukesh Nayak, Yadavendra Singh, Phundelal Marco and Umang Singhar may not get ticket in the first list. The report of these MLAs is reported to be not positive.
Congress does not want to take risk in ticket distribution this time. In addition to survey report, Congress screening committee chairman Madhusudan Mistry too is collecting information about the prospective contenders. The party is cautious this time in selection of the candidates as it had made several mistakes in ticket distribution in the assembly polls of 2013.
