BHOPAL: Construction of halls, platforms, temples etc for holding socio-cultural or religious structures inside parks shrink their area, leaving little or no room for children to play and adults to take a stroll or just sit and enjoy fresh air.

But community hall and other constructions have been carried out in the name of cultural activities in the park at Gautam Nagar.

Parks, ideally, should remain parks. With these kinds of constructions, while the outer area of the parks remains the same, they shrink from the inside.

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration is supposed to take action against constructions in parks.

Ravi Namdev

“It is not justified to have any kind of construction in the parks as it comes under the category of encroachment. Parks should look like parks. But unfortunately, in the name of cultural and religious activities, constructions are promoted and the authorities concerned do not take any action. Children get less space to play in the park if a permanent construction is made. “

Deepant Tirode

“If any construction is carried out in the park, definitely it is done with the consent of the local residents. However, construction reduces the internal area of the park. From outside, it looks like park but inside most of the space is covered by the construction, so there is hardly any space for children to play and movement.”

Pravin Dubey

“There is nothing wrong even if constructions are made with the consent of the local residents and the parks are maintained properly. If such construction is not done, builders, slum dwellers etc will encroach upon the area and then nothing can be done.  Once any construction is done with the consent of the residents, they take steps to protect it and thus encroachment is avoided”

Santosh Mishra

“Local politicians promote such practices and local residents support such construction in the name of cultural programme in the park. Such practices should be stopped as concrete construction is treated as permanent construction. But on the other hand, such construction is also needed for protection of the park otherwise or any builder or muscleman may encroach upon the park and then no one can oust them.”
