BHOPAL: Sehore collector Dr Sudam Khade admitted to illegal mining on the Narmada River bed in Nasrullaganj, Budhni and other areas of the district before the NGT on Monday. He had been summoned by the Green Tribunal to appear in person before it.
The collector told the NGT that the administration was continuously trying to check illegal mining and has set up three check posts for the purpose. Dissatisfied with the reply of the Collector and the SP, who was also present, the NGT bench ordered the Collector to come with suspension orders of mining officer M.A. Khan on Tuesday for hearing.
Vinayak Parihar, who had filed the PIL against illegal mining said, “No written orders were given by the NGT on suspension. Only verbal orders were issued. The bench was not at all satisfied with their replies and has strictly asked both the officials to take action”. He claimed that illegal mining is continuing unabated in the district.
