BHOPAL: The Congress leadership’s decision to strip AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh of the charge of Karnataka and Goa, has activated his detractors in the state Congress, even as his supporters have chosen to adopt the wait-and-watch approach.
The anti-Digvijay Singh lobby wants that he should be kept away from the state; and its leaders are thinking in the terms of approaching the high command with this demand. Their argument is that if Digvijay is not allowed to dabble in the state affairs, the party would gain in the assembly elections.
After Rajya Sabha MP Satyavrat Chaturvedi demanding that Digvijay be banished to Tamil Nadu, former MP Sajjan Singh Verma has also opened front against Singh. Verma said that “those who harm the party’s interests should be kept away”.
Digvijay losing the charge of the two states has emboldened his detractors within the party. His supporters are upset but they are keeping mum. Sources said that the move has enthused the Scindia camp, which thinks that if Singh is weakened, the possibility of their leader being projected as the chief ministerial face of the party in the next polls would increase.
