BHOPAL: A short circuit in a transformer again led to a major fire in the city the latest incident occurred near Miracle Hospital on Tuesday. As many as seven shops were gutted in the fire that lasted for two hours. The fire broke out at around 2:30 and was doused by 04:30 pm. MPEB’s lethargy to suspend the power supply even after being informed not only delayed the relief work but also added the misery of the people affected with fire. The fire tenders from the four fire stations, Fatehgarh, Mata mandir, Pul Bogda and one from Mantralaya were pressed into the relief work.

According to the locals the incident occurred due to a short circuit in a transformer located near Chittod Complex in MP Nagar Zone 1 in the afternoon. According to fireman Yasir, the power supply was still not suspended and that they had to use foam to douse the flames. Yasir said the shops near it were totally damaged but we prevented it from spreading elsewhere. Anil Kumar Khatri, chief general manager in the MPEB on the other hand says that the fire did not break out due to transformer but it was because of some fault in the Sanchi Parlour nearby. He also said that the transformers will only be replaced if the MPEB finds it necessary.
