Bhopal: Corruption might not have become an election issue in assembly polls in the state but it is emerging as a major issue in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Income Tax raids on the confidants of Chief Minister Kamal Nath in the state and filing of FIR on scams that took place during BJP government have brought people’s focus on corruption ahead of the elections.

Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has started grilling former government by filing FIR in e-tender scam. Congress government is preparing to expose other scams to attack its previous government in the state. The FIRs in the scams that took place during previous government would be made an election issue.

BJP also wants to draw people’s attention towards corruption that took place during Congress government. BJP is going to seek votes on the basis of slips recovered during I-T raids and terming Nath’s government as corrupt. BJP is gearing up to attack the government by raising the issue of transfers that took place in past three months and functioning of the Congress government.

Congress too is preparing to attack Modi government and also focus on corruption that took place in fifteen years in the state. Congress had prepared its election campaign focusing on its attack on Central government and publicizing its achievements after coming to power in the states. Now the campaign would also target previous BJP government in the state too.

Chief Minister Kamal Nath and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who were seen quite friendly prior to I-T raids, have come face to face following the crackdown. Nath had visited Chouhan twice, once on his birthday, but I-T raids have added bitterness in their relations.  Chauhan, on the issue of EOW filing FIR in e-tender scam, said he welcome investigation into the scam. The former CM said people know that Congressmen are the biggest scamsters and no evidence is needed for whatever can be seen.

CM Kamal Nath had a long meeting with Chief Secretary, DGP and additional chief secretary, public relations on Friday. The irregularities in Makhanlal Chaturvedi University of Journalism along with other scams were discussed. According to sources, FIR may be filed in connection with University of Journalism and other issues.
