In a video taking rounds on social media, news channel Al Jazeera’s anchor is seen breaking down as he announces to the world the death of his colleague, Wael Al Dahdouh’s family in Gaza by an Israeli airstrike. Videos of Dahdouh getting the news have also gone viral. Dahdouh, who is the Arabic's bureau chief for Al Jazeera in Gaza, has claimed this to be a “targeted attack on children, civilians and women” by the Israel government.
Dahdouh’s family- wife, son, daughter and grandson- had been sheltered in a ‘safe area’ in the Nuseirat refugee camp designated by Israel. The airstrike comes even after this. Reports say that many more are still trapped under the rubble of the two houses that where raided.
24 journalists dead in Palestine
The journalist who announced this heartbreaking news on Al Jazeera, choked up as he couldn’t suppress his emotions. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate claim that since the inception of the Israel-Hamas war, 24 journalists have lost their lives while many have been wounded. Some were killed along with their families.
On October 7, Hamas infiltrated Israel territory and launched a surprise attack. Israel struck back by declaring a ‘state of war’. Gaza has been stuck in this tirade with food, water, aid and other necessities being cut off. The airstrikes have claimed more than 6000 lives in Palestine and 1400 lives in Israel.
International stand to the war
The international community stands divided on the issue while many western countries, especially the US, standing with Israel, terming Hamas as a terrorist organisation. While many other countries including Arabic countries, prominently Iran and Egypt, stands strongly with Palestine, terming Israel as settlers.
