Lahore : Did an Indian steel magnate from Haryana broker the meeting between PM Modi and his counterpart Nawaz Sharif? The businessman’s name was dropped in the social media on Friday and had some time back figured in speculation about a similar unscheduled meeting held between the two leaders in Kathmandu, away from the prying eyes of the media. Journalist Barkha Dutt in her recent book, ‘This Unquiet Land—Stories from India’s Fault Lines,’ had said that on the sidelines of the SAARC summit in Kathmandu last November Modi and Sharif had held an hour-long secret meeting facilitated by Indian steel magnate Sajjan Jindal, brother of former Congress MP Naveen Jindal. Coincidentally, Sajjan Jindal was in Lahore on Friday. The MD of the JSW group tweeted: “In Lahore to greet PM Navaz Sharif on his birthday”, with a picture of himself. The Sharif family also has deep interest in steel.
