San Francisco: Facebook filed a lawsuit in a US court to bar a New Zealand firm from selling fake “likes”, views and followers to Instagram users.

The firm and three people targeted in the suit operated a service to raise the profile of Insta accounts by bolstering them with bogus followers, views and “likes”, FB director of platform enforcement and litigation Jessica Romero blogged.

“By filing the lawsuit, we are sending a message this kind of fraud is not tolerated on our services, and we will act to protect the integrity of our platform,” Romero said.
