Arrest warrants for 33 Bangladesh opposition members

Dhaka: A Bangladesh court on Monday issued arrest warrants for 33 opposition members in connection with a January bomb attack during an anti-government demonstration here.

Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order after taking the charges into cognizance, Xinhua news agency reported.

The court issued the arrest warrant against Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member, and 32 others in the case.

According to the case statement, the accused instigated their party fellows for the bomb attack on January 28 in Dhaka during a demonstration against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government.

At least 10 people, including three police personnel, were injured in the bomb attack.
