Walmart, a chain of hypermarkets in the US, ran into a controversy for selling slippers and panties with a Lord Ganesh design. Netizens were upset and angry with the brand for using the image of Hindu God inappropriately.

Earlier this December, users spot slippers, boxer shorts, panties, pajama pants, lounge pants, and sleepwear carrying Lord Ganesha print listed on the official website of Walmart. Several people condemned the brand for using the Hindu God-based design on garments like underwear and slippers, which they pointed out to be offensive and disrespectful.

It was reported that a Hindu advocacy group ‘Insight UK’ also voiced against Walmart’s actions alongside the rage expressed on social media by several netizens. “The Hindu community is deeply hurt by this disregard for our deities and values. Such acts reflect a lack of cultural awareness and respect,” they wrote.

Walmart Takes Down Controversial Products

Following the backlash on the internet for selling clothing designed with the Hindu God's image, Walmart took down their products. As of Tuesday afternoon, Walmart has not released a detailed statement addressing on the recently-triggered issue.
