Mumbai: Madon Polo’s handicap worked against them as Piramal Polo survived a scare before edging out their opponents on the basis of a 1.5 point advantage after being tied at 6-6 in the opening round of the Sternhagen Polo Cup, at ARC Grounds, Mahalaxmi here on Tuesday.
Gonzalo started strong for Piramal scoring two goals within four minutes of the first chukker. Madon Polo fought back with Vishal Nihilani chipped in a goal and had to settle for the 1-2 scoreline. It was an intense contest in the second chukker with Dhruvpal Godara of Piramal and Simran Shergill of Madon going head-on as they went on to share four goals between them, and end the second session (chukker) with Piramal leading by a solitary goal. The 3rd and fourth brought in the best among the players.
