Mumbai: Luís Filipe Madeira Caeiro Figo, better known as Luis Figo, the former Portuguese professional footballer, who donned the colours of Sporting CP, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, was in the city to unveil the UEFA Champions League trophy to India on Friday. The trophy was on display in city, at the racecourse Tote, here on Friday. The footballer who won 127 caps for the Portugal national team, spoke about football, and the champions league, including his role as a football and his future.

On Real Madrid bad patch…
It is sad. These are my own opinion. I think at this moment, it is not the time to criticise. It has been a tough week for Real Madrid and they lost everything they laid their hands on. Zidane’s decision was his personnel move. I feel that the team without a coach could make a big difference. Yes, Zinedine Zidane leaving the club was unfortunate and again everyone have their own choice when it comes to changing the loyalty and that has happened. After playing for the side for years one does feel sorry.

Real Madrid would survive even without the services of compatriot and football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who is not part of the club this season after having shifted to Italian club Juventus. All of it was part of football as Ronaldo was also making history without being a part of the club. On VAR in present day… VAR has come to stay, it is good for the game. This assists the official and will help the growth of the game. I am for it and it is there to stay.

Playing the Clasico both for Real Madrid and Barcelona…
Playing for big team is an honour and something different. There is a lot of emotions, as every player representing a team wants his team to win. So, I did have all the opportunity and consider myself fortunate to don colours of these wonderful teams who have a very big name in world soccer.

On predictions about the Championship League…
There are good teams, and I feel Manchester City could be one of them, but nothing can be said present days game, and it all depends on what happens on match day. Lets hope the best team wins.

On Mourinho, who made an unceremonious exit for Manchester United…
He is undoubtedly one of the best coach this game has produced. It always happens, everyone wants his team to win. And that has not happened with him. But I am sure he will make a comeback, as he is good coach and philosopher.

On his role to become Real Madrid’s coach…
Me. No in the first place I don’t have a coach licence and now that I am involved with UEFA I have a big role to to play for the betterment of football.
