Bipin Singh played a crucial role once again in Mumbai City FC's impressive comeback, securing a 3-1 victory over Mohun Bagan to claim the ISL 2023-24 title for the second time, but this time at the Salt Lake Stadium in front of the 62,000-odd crowd which was mostly cheering for the home team.

Majority of them had to return home in disappointment as their beloved Bagan couldn't repeat their magic of last season.

A see-saw battle in Kolkata

Mohun Bagan initially took the lead with Jason Cummings' goal just before half-time. However, Mumbai City FC levelled the score in the 53rd minute, courtesy of Jorge Pereyra Diaz, who capitalised on a superb pass from Alberto Noguera.

Bipin Singh emerged as hero of the match, coming off the bench to score the winning goal in the 81st minute. This triumph matched Mumbai City FC's success in the 2020-21 season, where Bipin also netted a crucial goal.

Vojtus the hero for Islanders

Despite 9 minutes of added time in the second half, Mohun Bagan failed to find an equaliser. Substitute Jakub Vojtus secured the victory for 'The Islanders' with a goal in the 7th minute of injury time.

The loss shattered Mohun Bagan's aspirations of defending the ISL Cup and achieving a rare brace. Under the guidance of coach Sergio Lobera, Mumbai City FC demonstrated dominance throughout the match, controlling possession and launching numerous attacks.

How the game unfolded

Notably, Lallianzuala Chhangte of Mumbai struck the post twice in the first half. However, Mohun Bagan briefly seized the lead with a goal from Dimitri Petratos, only for Mumbai to swiftly restore parity.

Alberto Noguera's precise pass paved the way for Diaz's goal, levelling the score for the visitors. Bipin Singh's decisive goal in the 81st minute ultimately secured victory for his team, with Jakub Vojtus adding a late goal to seal the win.
