Mysuru: The Indian women’s team was on the threshold of victory against South Africa who, following on, were 83 for six, still 84 runs in arrears, at stumps on the third and penultimate day of the one-off Test on Tuesday.

India, after making 400 for six declared in their first innings, dismissed the visitors for 233, despite a battling century by skipper Mignon du Perez (102, 253b, 15×4). In their second essay, the South Africans were reduced to 83 for six. For India, new ball bowler Jhulan Goswami and debutant leg-spinner Poonam Yadav took two wickets apiece to put the home team on top.

Earlier, South Africa, resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 85 for three, struggled against the Indian bowlers among whom seamer Harmanpreet Kaur took five for 44 while another debutant, off-spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad came away with four for 53.

For the visitors, Perez and Trish Chetty (55) put on 101 runs for the sixth wicket, but once the partnership was broken, the innings folded up in quick time.
