Lucknow, January 17: Committed to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has implemented various measures to ensure their comfort and well-being during the severe winter. Extensive arrangements have been made in old-age homes across the state to protect the elderly from the biting cold.
The state government has allocated significant funds for the sustenance and care of senior citizens. Additionally, district-level implementation committees have been formed to oversee and enhance the management of old-age homes, ensuring efficient operations and improved facilities.
The Social Welfare Department is operating old-age homes with a capacity of 150 in every district of Uttar Pradesh. These homes not only provide accommodation but also ensure proper care and social security for the elderly. Special committees have been formed at the district level to manage these homes efficiently. Additionally, welfare officers have been appointed to address the concerns of the elderly and actively contribute to their care.
To further support senior citizens, the government has established a conciliation officer panel, ensuring transparency and effectiveness in the process. Clear guidelines have been issued to streamline the admission and management of old-age homes, ensuring timely availability of all necessary facilities.
Notably, the Yogi government is dedicating substantial funds annually to ensure proper care and dignified living for senior citizens in old-age homes. In the financial year 2022-23, Rs 49.87 crore was spent on supporting 5,443 elderly residents.
This number rose to 6,864 beneficiaries in 2023-24, with an allocation of Rs 61.94 crore. For the current financial year 2024-25, the government is spending over Rs 40.02 crore to benefit approximately 7,000 elderly individuals.

This initiative has brought a renewed sense of energy and self-esteem to the lives of senior citizens. These old-age homes not only provide shelter but also offer a sense of family and social security. The government is committed to ensuring that no elderly person feels neglected during this phase of life.
