New Delhi: Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as 'Principal Secretary-2' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His selection was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), with the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issuing the official order on Saturday, February 22.
Meanwhile, PK Mishra has been serving as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister since September 11, 2019.
According to the official order, Shaktikanta Das’s appointment will be "co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier."
Who Is Shaktikanta Das?
A former IAS officer from the 1980 Tamil Nadu cadre, Das assumed the role of RBI Governor in December 2018 and retired last year. During his six-year tenure, he navigated several global economic challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Recognised for his leadership, Das was ranked among the world's top three central bankers for two consecutive years by the US-based magazine Global Finance. In the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2024, he earned an esteemed 'A+' rating.
In his final press conference, Das emphasised that restoring the inflation-growth balance remained the RBI’s foremost priority.
