Mumbai : A 21-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances after a fight with her landlord. The Malwani police which is investigating the matter has a registered a case of culpable homicide and is waiting for the post mortem report to take further action.
According to the officials, the incident occurred on Tuesday night when the woman identified as Ashiya Shaikh (21) and her husband Javed Shaikh reached their home in New Collector compound of Malwani. The couple which got married early last year, had shifted into a rented house in Plot no. 21 of the New Collector compound.
Officials informed that the couple argued with the landlord over the electricity bill. that the bill was not right since they did not spend much time at home and hence did not make use of the electricity connection. “They stayed in a one plus one structure with part of the house being used by somebody else. They informed the landlord that he should ask them to pay the bill and not them,” said a senior officer of Malwani police station.
The argument turned ugly after the landlord summoned some of his family members and friends and they tried to hit the couple. In the fight that ensued, somebody pushed Ashiya and she fell to the ground. “She fell on face first and her head got hurt. She was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival,” said her cousin.
The distraught family has asked the police officers to register a case of murder. Officials who have registered an offence under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code are yet to make any arrest. They informed that the post mortem report will determine the cause of death and will lead the course of action.
