Mumbai police finds him guilty of  professional misconduct while Chembur police adds a non-bailable offence to another case against him

Mumbai : In developments resulting in double trouble for rape and molestation accused Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sunil Paraskar, the Preliminary Enquiry (PE) carried out by Mumbai police found him guilty of professional misconduct while the Chembur police added a non-bailable offence to another case against him on Thursday.

The PE was set up under Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration) Vivek Phansalkar after Paraskar was accused of rape and molestation by a city-based model in July this year. The PE found him guilty of professional lapses as he behaved with the model in a manner unbecoming of a police officer.

The two had met earlier in 2012 when the model was a complainant in a separate case related to an escort services website where her identity was used to solicit customers and Paraskar was the then Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region).

Highly placed sources in the police said, “The report was completed 10 days back and forwarded to  Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Dayal. It has held Paraskar guilty of professional lapses as he went out of his jurisdiction with her without taking his seniors’ permission and other such things which are unbecoming of a police officer. And as such he has violated the Civil Services (Conduct) Rules.”

The development was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria. DGP Sanjeev Dayal while saying that the report had been submitted to him refused to comment on it.

In the second case at Chembur police station, the complainant model’s lawyer, Chitra Salunkhe had alleged that Paraskar had sent a man, Deepak Gupta to her residence to buy her off. “On August 19, Deepak Gupta had come to my place as Deepak Sharma and offered me Rs 10 lakh and even more to keep my mouth shut during Paraskar’s anticipatory bail hearing at the Sessions Court,” said advocate Chitra Salunkhe on Thursday.

The police has now added Section 120 (B) (Criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code to the case, which is a non-bailable offence that could very well lead to Paraskar’s arrest. The development was confirmed by the Senior Police Inspector of Chembur police station, Dyanesh Devde.

According to Salunkhe, Gupta’s call data records (CDRs) show that he was in contact with Paraskar on the day he had come to meet her at her residence in Chembur. The name of a suspended officer of Mumbai’s Anti-Narcotics Cell also cropped up in the case as Gupta’s CDRs contained his contact too. And as such, Paraskar and Gupta were booked too.

I am going to write to Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria to transfer my case to the Crime Branch as I am scared for my life because of Paraskar and his contacts,” Salunkhe said.
