Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray slammed BJP for staging a statewide agitation demanding the restoration of OBC quota in local bodies saying that the real leader during the present Covid-19 crisis is one who takes care of the health of its citizens and not one who puts up a show of strength by mobilizing the crowd. He targeted leader of opposition Devendra Fadnavis for Friday’s agitation amid threat of Delta Plus variant and emergence of possible third Covid-19 wave.

Thackeray took a dig at Fadnavis for targeting the MVA government on the OBC quota issue and claimed it does not augur well on the part of the leader of opposition to lead the agitation during the present pandemic and thereby spread the virus infection among people.

However, Thackeray showered praise on BJP MP and Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje for showing patience and restraint while pursuing his demand for the restoration of Maratha reservation. He also thanked the Maratha community for taking up their cause by avoiding large gatherings.

“It is true that the pandemic crisis was not restricted to Maharashtra but faced the entire globe. The real leader is one who protects society at all fronts. It is the right to have economic and political reservation and also quota in jobs. But a leader is needed to protect the health interest of the society. The real leader is one who knows when to agitate and when to hold dialogue,’’ said Thackeray.
