Mumbai: In the wake of a rise in cases of accidental deaths, Central Railways (CR) has decided to start a 2×2 seating arrangement in a CR train. This decision has been taken to ensure that there is more space for commuters to stand in the train, especially during peak hours.
Following this, CR PRO Narendra Patil said that the project is being implemented on a trial basis, wherein the experiment will be started in one train. Following this, three general class male coaches will be fitted with a 2×2 seating arrangement. He further added that the train with the new seating arrangement will run after nearly two to three days.
Following the death of a youth who fell off a crowded train, a committee was formed to review the rising number of accidental deaths in the city. Thereafter, the committee members in the meeting suggested that the 2×2 seating arrangement be introduced to provide enough space for more people to stand.
