Thane: With heavy rainfalls in Mumbai and Thane district, the Thane and Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporations have issued emergency numbers for helping the citizens during any disaster-related emergency.

The emergency contact numbers and precautionary alert were issued by different municipal corporations after IMD (Indian meteorological department) on Monday predicted a heavy rainfall in Konkan region including Thane district till June 11.

Here are the helpline numbers:

Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC): Toll-free number 1800222108 and helpline number 022-25371010.

Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC): 0251 2720143 / 2720149

Yuvraj Badane, public relation officer and deputy municipal commissioner of UMC had asked citizens to contact the helpline number in case of any waterlogging, tree fall or any disasters. "If there's any water logging and citizens don't feel safe then they should contact the authorities. We have made arrangements for them at halls and schools," added Badane.

The authorities have appealed citizens to stay safe at home and move out of the premises in any emergency situation till June 11. "They should get all the food commodities till june 11 stored at their house. They should not stand near and stay away from dangerous trees, hoardings, electric poles and buildings with mobile towers," added Badane in the press note released by UMC.

Badane appealed to citizens to ignore and avoid believing in rumours. He asked to verify the news and only trust news that comes from news releases from the government bodies or municipal authorities as they are authentic.

The press release also said the residents staying in dilapidated buildings should vacate the building on an urgent basis and should shift to a safer place.
