Mumbai : The Tadeo police on Sunday arrested three doctors attached with the JJ hospital for being drunk and driving, and for abusing and misbehaving with policemen and obstructing them while the latter were on duty. The three were produced in court, which remanded them to one day in police custody.
On Saturday night, constable Jagannath Sonavane attached with the Tadeo traffic police was deployed on a ‘drink and drive’ mission in the Tadeo area. Jagannath, along with his colleagues, were examining the drivers to find out whether they were drunk or not.
Around 1.45 am, they saw a speeding car rushing towards them. They directed the car to stop. Jagannath asked the driver for his driving licence, which the driver was reluctant in providing.
Jagannath suspected that the two other passengers in the car were drunk, just as the driver was. He asked them to breathe into a breath alcohol analysis machine. The police claimed that they were found to be under the influence of alcohol and that the men in the car started abusing the on-duty police.
In spite of repeated warnings and requests, they did not cooperate. Instead, they threatened the officers, the police claimed. Finally, the police registered a complaint against them under various sections of the IPC.
Later, they were produced in a local court which remanded them to one day in police custody. They will be again be produced in court on Monday.
