Thane: IN a bizarre incident, a 35-year-old mentally unstable man got down a manhole and did not call out for help or climb back. This incident took place at Ghodbunder road, near R-mall in Thane, on Tuesday afternoon. The man has been identified as Raghunath Nilesh Koli.
The Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) official said, “We received a call from a passerby around 1.25pm that a man had climbed down the gutter and had not returned. Thereafter, we rushed to the spot along with one fire engine, one emergency tender, one rescue vehicle and one ambulance.”
Some school children spotted him when he climbed down the gutter and later the children called out to him asking him to come out, but he refused and went down deeper. Fearing for him, the children alerted a passerby and informed him of the incident. The person informed the police. Santosh Kadam, an RDMC officer, Thane said, “We pulled him out after two hours.
He is suffering from a mental disorder and we rescued him safely. We later handed him over to the police”. The fire brigade officials said, he climbed down the gutter and crawled further deep into the gutter and later we broke the gutter slab with poklane (JCB machine) and rescued him.
