Thane: A woman was killed and her four daughters were injured after a part of their flat's ceiling collapsed on them in Maharashtra's Thane on Friday, while another woman died in a separate incident in the district when a concrete canopy fell on her, officials said.
The first incident involving the 46-year-old woman and her daughters took place around 4.15 am at a residential building in Patan Bunder area of Uttan town, while the second one occurred at Bhiwandi in the afternoon, they said.

A chunk of plaster in the ceiling of the living room of an independent house in Uttan collapsed, claiming the life of a 46-year-old woman and leaving four members of her family on Friday.
According to chief fire officer- Prakash Borade, the incident was reported from the Patanbunder area of coastal Uttan near Bhayandar at around 4:15 am on Friday. A major portion of the ceiling’s plaster came crashing down exposing the steel rods and concrete inside.
While 46-year-old-Sunita Borges succumbed to injuries, her children-Snehal (25), Dency (22) Shweta (17) and Saniya (13) who were sleeping together sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition is said to be stable. As a precautionary safety measure, the 20-year-old single storeyed structure has been evacuated and will be audited for structural stability. An accidental death report has been registered at the Uttan coastal police station.
Bhiwandi incident
In the Bhiwandi incident, a 55-year-old woman lost her life, an official said.
"The window canopy of a building collapsed on the woman when she was standing beneath it. It occurred around 1.20 pm in Khadipar locality on the outskirts of Bhiwandi," he said.
The body of the victim, identified as Shahnaz Zahir Ansari, was sent to the Indira Gandhi Hospital Hospital for post-mortem and a probe is being conducted.
