Thane: Once again, the Marathi or non-Marathi issue has sparked controversy in a residential building in Dombivli. The Manpada Police booked two people who are members of the society for allegedly using objectionable remarks against the Marathi people and opposing them to performing pooja and Haldi Kum Kum.

The incident took place in a residential society located in the Nandivli area of Dombivli on Monday night. A video was recorded by someone that has gone viral on social media.

The society members of the residential building are to be organize the Haldi Kumkum on February 2, as mentioned in the society's board. Non-Marathi people who took a photo of the notice board shared it in the WhatsApp group and made objectionable remarks. Following this, outrage sparked among Marathi communities.

On Tuesday night, the issue escalated between society members. The Marathi families alleged that non-Marathi families had used derogatory remarks against them and opposed the pooja, which hurt their religious sentiments. Therefore, the Marathi families rushed to the spot and filed a case against them.

A case was filed under section of 196,300, 3(5) of Bhartiya nyay Sanhita against Anil Bhat, 52, Chirag Lalan, 38.

Vijay Kabdane, senior police inspector from Manpada police, said, "During the enquiry, we learned that there have been disputes in the society's committee for the last seven years. They were not performing any religious rituals in the society. However, the women of the society decided to perform a pooja and haldi kumkum program held on February 2. A notice was posted on the board stating that donations of Rs 500 were requested for the program. One member, Anil Bhat, objected to the program and made derogatory remarks about it, which resulted in commotion among the members. Another member, Chirag Lallan, also made objectionable remarks against the Marathi people. We received information from the women members. Subsequently, our team rushed to the spot, controlled the situation, and maintained peace and harmony. We lodged an FIR against them based on the complaint. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing."
