Mumbai: Students claim they want to study in government colleges instead of private institutions as the fees is less. Following on this, the state education department also wants to focus on starting more aided colleges in the city. During the convocation ceremony of Mumbai University (MU) on Friday, students claimed they prefer to study in state universities because the fees is less. In addition, students said that the education system is better in private universities but fees play an important role. Shraddha Das, a student, said, “Fees are an important factor in education as courses are very expensive in private colleges. We prefer to study in aided colleges because we can save up on the money and use it for further studies.”
Authorities of state education department claim they want to get more private colleges under the jurisdiction of the state. A senior officer of department said, “We want to bring private institutions under the control of the state so that we can lower the fees. Also we have now started fee fixation committee to control fees of all colleges of the state. We want to cap the fees so that students do not face a tough time.” Parents claimed there should be a strict rule for fees of private colleges. Ramesh Thakur, a parent said, “If the fees are less then it helps us to find a better education for our children. Private colleges charge a high amount and no matter the facilities but we cannot afford the fees so there is no point.”
