Mumbai : The State government under the rule of Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is biased in approach and has displayed no respect for the national heroes like Lokmanya Tilak, BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari has alleged at a press conference here.

“The government has published a list of the national heroes whose photographs can be displayed at the government offices. But, they have excluded Lokmanya Tilak and Subhashchandra Bose from the list of the leaders whose photos ought to be displayed at the government offices. Savitribai Phule’s name too has been deleted from the later list,” Bhandari said.

Bhandari also alleged that the government is ignoring the development of the area of Girgaum chawpatty where Tilak was cremated.

Prakash Silam of Lokmanya Tilak Swarajyabhoomi Smarak Samiti, the organisation that has mooted a proposal to rename the Girgaum chawpatty as ‘Swarajya Bhoomi’ and wants a flag pole to be erected there as a token of the freedom struggle, said that over years the government has not moved a bit on the proposal.
