Mumbai : The State government is contemplating on a separate ‘Smart Village’ scheme, rural development minister Pankaja Munde has said.
“The idea is to club various rural development schemes undertaken by several government departments under the new scheme,” Munde told reporters during an informal interaction here on Wednesday.
“We intend to enable all the village panchayats with good governance, basic infrastructure, energy from renewable sources, guaranteed water supply and health and hygiene,” the minister said and added that this can only be achieved through effective implementation of development schemes.
“There are various schemes for each of these things and there are several departments who are responsible for implementing the schemes. We are studying the possibilities where we would bring all the schemes under one roof for better and smarter implementation,” Ms Munde added. We are also planning to give awards for effective implementation of the scheme, she said.
Thrust under this scheme would be over empowerment of village administration, implementation of right to services act, computerization and digitization, use of non conventional energy sources, forestation, ecological conservation, health and getting rid of malnutrition, she said. The village panchayats would be selected based on geo-socio-economic basis criteria and the scheme would be implemented keeping in view the regional needs, she said.
