Mumbai : The Smart City schemes need to be implemented to develop the slums in the city, RPI leader Ramdas Athawale has said as he addressed a press conference here on Saturday.
“The slums in Chembur and Ghatkoper can be easily developed into nice localities. The funds for the Smart City scheme need to be utilised for project like these,” Athawale said when he was asked to comment on the Shiv Sena’s opposition to the scheme.
He however refrained from making any comment against the Shiv Sena.
He also announced a “Bharat Bheem Yatra” which he said will start from Kanyakumari on 26th January. “The three month long Yatra will take Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s message to the whole country,” he said.
“We have decided to celebrate 125th birth anniversary year of Dr. Ambedkar in the form of ‘Jati Todo Samaj Jodo’ (Do away with Casts to unite the society) mission. To spread the message of the mission across the country, we would be taking out the march,” Athawale said.
The Bharat Bheem Yatra will start from Kanyakumari on 26th January and end at Dr. Ambedkar’s birth place Mahu in Madhya Pradesh. Prime minister Narendra Modi along with Chief Ministers of several states would attend the function at Mahu, Athawale informed.
