Mumbai : Blaming the Union government and levelling direct charges against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Union agriculture minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar said on Wednesday that rulers need to be more sensitive towards such issues.
“The prime minister should have taken note of the gruesome incident at Dadri much earlier,” Pawar said, as he addressed a press conference at the party headquarters here on Wednesday.
When asked how he blames the Union government over the issue when the law and order is a state subject, Pawar said, “Though law and order is a state subject, the Centre needs to take note of such incidences and discuss issues with the state government.”
“Modi’s statement has come only now, after so many days of the incident. He should have spoken earlier,” Pawar said.
“When I was Chief Minister and we decided to rename the Marathwada University after Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, it created a serious law and order condition. The then prime minister summoned me to Delhi to discuss the situation. The then union home minister offered me help to come out of the situation. This is how the rulers should behave,” Pawar said.
Pawar, who lodged a scathing attack on the state government over the drought condition across the state, also said that his party “will no longer support” the BJP in case the Shiv Sena decides to quit the government.
