Mumbai: The Dindoshi court adjourned the hearing of anticipatory bail application of the accused in the rape and cheating of a 33-year-old Bihari woman, Binoy Kodiyeri, to June 27 again.
Binoy, the son of CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, on Friday submitted an anticipatory bail application, which was earlier adjourned to Monday.
According to the police, Kodiyeri continued to elude a police team from Mumbai for the 6th successive day. His phone remained off. Deputy Commissioner of police (zone 9), Paramjit Singh Dahiya said, “He has been giving us the slip despite sending teams to Kerala.”
On Monday, when the case came up at the Dindoshi court, Binoy’s advocate Ashok Gupta argued his client was not hiding, but was seeking an assurance, while the prosecution, which opposed the bail, said police had the evidences and produced in the court. After hearing the arguments, the court said it would deliver its verdict on Thursday.
The cops sent to Kerala visited Binoy’s Kannur house on Wednesday, but did not find him. His mobile phone was switched off. A day later, they visited Binoy’s ancestral home in Thiruvananthapuram, but he was not there either.
Earlier, Mumbai police said they had concrete evidence to prove Binoy and the complainant woman had stayed together in a hotel and apartment in Mumbai.
Police summoned the woman again and questioned her. WhatsApp messages, bank account and other details the woman had shared were verified. Binoy will be taken into custody, questioned and could be arrested, police said.
Shailesh Pasalwad, a senior inspector at Oshiwara police station, said, “We are doing everything we can to trace Binoy, but he has managed to give us the slip. The process of issuing a lookout notice has been initiated.”
