One killed after chemical-laden container catches fire

Thane: One person was charred to death and three others were injured when three containers loaded with highly-inflammable chemicals caught fire after a freak collision on the Atlanta-Mumbra bypass road here, officials said today.

The incident took place last night disrupting traffic on the bypass till early morning, Disaster Management Cell Chief, Santosh Kadam of the TMC said.

Two Thane-bound containers collided with another coming from the opposite side (Panvel) resulting in a huge explosion leaving one dead, Divisional Fire Officer RG Pardeshi said.

Three others who sustained burn wounds have been admitted to Kalshekar Hospital at Mumbra.

The flames have been put off but the deceased has not been identified yet as he was charred beyond recognition, police and firemen said.
